NOXEL Learn

NOXEL Learn is a sourced, citation-honest knowledge base on SEO, AEO, and Generative Engine Optimization — built by NOXEL Research.

Every page here states its sources, flags what's actually established versus industry opinion, and links back to primary documentation wherever one exists. See our scoring methodology for how NOXEL SEO itself calculates scores.

GEO Foundations

Start Here — Pillar Guide
The Complete Guide to AI Search Visibility (2026)
A five-part framework — discoverability, crawlability, machine understanding, citation readiness, and measurement — linking the entire cluster below.
1

What Is Generative Engine Optimization (GEO)?

Definition, academic origin, and how it works — the foundation for everything else in this series.

2

GEO vs SEO vs AEO: What's the Difference?

How the three disciplines differ, overlap, and where the industry hasn't agreed on the lines between them.

3

How AI Search Engines Find and Cite Content

The retrieval-augmented generation process — crawling, retrieval, grounding, and citation, explained with primary sources.

4

What Is Citation Readiness?

An industry term with no single origin — what it actually bundles together, and what it doesn't guarantee.

A practical reference for GPTBot, OAI-SearchBot, PerplexityBot, and Google-Extended — and how to control them in robots.txt.

6

How to Optimize Content for AI Search Visibility

A practical, step-by-step guide that ties the whole series together — including how to measure GEO performance.

7

What Is AI Crawlability?

Why a permissive robots.txt alone doesn't guarantee access — firewalls, WAFs, and JavaScript rendering can each block a crawler independently.

8

What Is llms.txt?

A proposed AI-discoverability convention, growing in adoption but barely read by major AI crawlers so far — what the current evidence actually shows.

9

What Are Google AI Overviews?

How source selection works, why indexing is a prerequisite, and why no publisher can guarantee inclusion.

10

What Is Schema Markup?

Structured data, JSON-LD, and the current reality of eligibility versus implementation.

11

What Is Entity SEO?

Optimizing for how machines identify real-world things, not just keyword strings.

12

What Is a Knowledge Graph?

How consistent facts across sources support confident entity recognition.

13

How to Optimize for Google AI Overviews

Indexing, answer-first structure, and structured data as a parsing aid — not a guarantee.

How to Optimize for ChatGPT Search

Crawler configuration, server-rendered content, and verification beyond robots.txt.

15

How to Optimize for Perplexity

Crawler access, entity clarity, and concise sourced-answer structure.

16

Robots.txt for AI Crawlers

A complete, verified-source configuration template across every major crawler category.

17

How to Measure AI Visibility

Crawl access, citations, share of voice, and referral traffic as distinct metrics.

18

How to Track AI Citations

A repeatable sampling methodology, and the variance no tool fully solves.

How This Knowledge Base Is Organized

NOXEL Learn follows a pillar-and-cluster structure rather than a flat list of articles. The pillar guide above — The Complete Guide to AI Search Visibility — lays out the full framework in five parts: discoverability, crawlability, machine understanding, citation readiness, and measurement. Every article below belongs to one of those five parts and links back to the pillar, so you can either read the pillar guide start to finish or jump straight to the specific concept you need.

We add new articles when a concept is genuinely missing from the series, not on a fixed publishing schedule. Each article states when it was last reviewed, since AI search platforms and their crawling behavior change faster than most SEO documentation.

Editorial Standards

Every article in NOXEL Learn follows the same three rules. First, claims are sourced — where a fact comes from an official crawler policy, a platform's own documentation, or a primary technical spec, we link to it directly rather than asking you to trust our summary. Second, we flag opinion as opinion — GEO and AEO are young enough that plenty of "best practices" are really just informed guesses, and we say so rather than presenting industry consensus that doesn't exist yet. Third, nothing here is written to make NOXEL SEO look good; it's written to be useful whether or not you ever use our product.

This same discipline is what powers NOXEL Research Lab, our original-data initiative — the two projects share an editorial team and the same rule: no invented numbers, no vague claims, sample sizes stated plainly.
